River report: evening caddis and wet wading

Mid-summer flows have settled and the evening caddis hatch is as good as we've seen it.

An angler casting into golden evening light on a calm stretch of river

The river settled at about 900 cfs after runoff, and it’s fishing well from the upper canyon all the way to the take-out.

What’s working

  • Elk hair caddis from 6pm to dark. Size 14–16.
  • PMD nymphs under an indicator in the morning.
  • Hoppers along the grassy banks on windy afternoons.

Water temperatures are climbing, so we’re ending half days by 1pm on hot days to keep the fish healthy.
